Modeling Practice

This is a collection of personal CAD projects that I have created for personal interest and practice with CAD software. These projects were done in my free time with the intention of learning both about mechanical design and CAD modeling methods.

Automotive Push Nut

I reverse-engineered a broken plastic nut for my car that had broken. Once the design was complete, I 3D printed a replacement which has been used on my car ever since with no issues.

V8 Engine 1

This is my first attempt at modeling a V8 style engine. While simplistic, it was one of my first attempts at designing an engine and helped me to familiarize myself with some of the more advanced features of Autodesk Inventor.

I6 Engine (2018)

This model is of an inline 6 style engine and is where I gained experience with more complex geometries, mainly lofts. While an overall simpler layout than a V8 engine, this model is more detailed than my previous V8 model.

V12 Engine 1 (2020)

This was my first attempt at modeling a V12 style engine. This model is more complex than my previous models, utilizing Inventor's built-in gear and chain designing tools.

V8 Engine 2 (2020)

This was my second attempt at a V8 style engine, taking all the methods I learned from my previous projects to make my most realistic design. It uses a pushrod head assembly similar to many American made engines and uses parametric design for the block and rotating assembly.

V12 Engine 2 (2023)

This V12 design was an attempt to make an engine with dimensions entirely determined by a set of parameters. I assigned values such as cylinder size, cylinder count, and crankshaft dimensions, then through a series of relations the CAD model would automatically change to reflect the input parameters. These parameters determined the geometry for the block, pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft.

Radial Engine 1 (2018)

This was my first attempt at modeling a aircraft-style radial engine. This project introduced a new-to-me style of engine construction that presented unique geometric challenges.

Radial Engine 2 Render

This is a render of my second attempt at modeling a radial engine. This engine is more focused on realism, borrowing aspects from radial engines used in aircraft from world war 2.
